Impatience Pays Off: The Cubs Ready to Shine in Season's Grand Debut
It's finally Game Day, Cubs Superfans!
I’m giddy with anticipation as our Chicago Cubs gear up to face the Texas Rangers in a nationally televised showdown tonight at 6:35p CDT. After the long offseason, the moment we've all been waiting for is here. We have a tradition of having Hot Dogs on opening day and I plan to destroy a couple of hot dogs and make a mess with peanut shells today!
Justin Steele - Our Southpaw Ace
In the spotlight for our Cubs is 28-year-old lefty, Justin Steele, stepping into his 4th MLB season—all adorned in Cubbie blue. Coming off an all-star 2023, where he dazzled enough to finish 5th in the NL Cy Young race.
As he takes the mound tonight, it’s not just another game—it's another step for Justin to establish himself as our #1 starter. Steele’s journey from a promising talent to a potential ace of the staff is a long-overdue story showcasing the growth of the Cubs pitcher development department. He’s not just a player; he feels like one of us—a great dude with a great game.
Eovaldi's Challenge and Our Cubs to Watchr
Facing us on the field is Nathan Eovaldi, a 13-year veteran pitcher embarking on his journey with the Texas Rangers. His extensive career, featuring stints from the Dodgers, Rays, and Marlins to the Red Sox, presents a mix of experience and exploitable weaknesses.
Our right-handed hitters, especially the red-hot Seiya Suzuki, Yan Gomes (sporting a 6-for-11 record against Eovaldi), and Nico Hoerner, stand as the X factors in tonight’s lineup. These matchups could very well determine the game's outcome, with our hitters poised to exploit Eovaldi’s vulnerabilities.
Let’s force 100 pitches by the 5th inning

Blueprint for Victory
As we step into the season, the formula for an Opening Day victory is crystal clear.
Justin Steele must command the mound up to the 7th inning, showcasing the craftiness and determination that made him our opening day starter
Gloves, Gloves, Gloves - The gold glove players need to do their job, and Mr Morel over at 3rd… It’s time to show us what you have learned.
Seiya Suzuki’s bat needs to stay red-hot, echoing the passion of Cubs fans everywhere.
Speaking of spirit, I want to share a tradition that captures the essence of our fan community. It's about "my guy."
In my circle of Superfans, we have a ritual. Before each game, especially when spirits are high—which has lacked since the “Great Sell Off of 2021”—we each call out "my guy," the player we're banking on to play a big role in our victory.
Today, I'm throwing my support behind Seiya Suzuki. Given Eovaldi's track record with righties and Seiya's spring, I've got a good feeling about this.
Opening Day!
The Closer:
Steele vs. Eovaldi.
This duel signals the start of a 162-game marathon, a journey that begins today. As we gather at the starting line, remember, it's more than just the opening game—it's our love for the game, celebrated in every play on the field. Cubs Superfans now is the time to come together, to cheer loudly, and to keep the faith.
Subscribe for updates that keep the excitement alive and share your game day experiences, from rituals to Opening Day hot dogs, with the Cubs community. Together, we're a formidable force. Let's hope this season lands on the good side of the history books. Let's go, Cubs!
