A tough loss, a collision concern, and an early return? Catch all the latest Cubs drama and updates in today's newsletter!
The Leadoff Man
It’s not all bad news today! While today’s Cubs game took a turn for the worse early, with the Red Sox scoring freely, it offered a silver lining—extra time to make a homemade pasta dinner for the family. But here's some actual good news: Our injured starter is slated to return to the rotation sooner than expected. So, as we gather around our comforting homemade meal, let's savor not just the flavors but also the promising updates from our lineup. Read until the end for more on this uplifting development!!
A Game to Forget
The Cubs experience a rare position player pitching moment and a game to forget all in one.
It's rare to see a bad baseball game unravel this completely, and that's what happened to the Cubs on Saturday. The loss looked epic on paper, not just in numbers but in how everything that could go wrong, did. Ben Brown started off decently but didn't look sharp, and Luke Little's performance could only be described as disastrous. This game was the baseball equivalent of a storm—intense, messy, but quick to pass. It's a good reminder that some days are just about getting the bad plays out of the system and focusing on the next game.
Collision Concern at Fenway
Christopher Morel’s game ended with a worrying thud after a collision.
In the late innings, Cubs fans held their breath as Christopher Morel collided with teammate Alexander Canario. The impact looked severe, and Morel’s grimace focused on his left elbow, causing anxiety among fans. Although he walked off the field, the nature of the incident suggested caution rather than catastrophe. With the game's outcome virtually decided, his early exit seemed more precautionary. We're all hoping it’s nothing serious, a stark reminder of baseball's unpredictability and physical demands. Craig Counsell commented, "I think he's fine," in his postgame press conference after witnessing Morel's remarkable catch over Canario during the seventh inning at Fenway.
Christopher Morel says he’s little banged up, specifically mentioning his right hip & both elbows, but overall feels good after colliding with Canario.
Morel sounded encouraged he could play tomorrow, adding “we’ll see how I feel” & that the decision is ultimately up to Counsell

We Have Some Good News!
Justin Steele is set to return to the Cubs lineup sooner than expected.
Justin Steele's recovery from a hamstring injury is going better than expected. After just one rehab start in Arizona, he’s slated for a more competitive outing with the Iowa Cubs. Surprisingly, the plan is to bring him back to Chicago right after. This accelerated timeline is a boon for the Cubs, suggesting Steele’s in great shape and ready to jump back into the rotation. It’s a positive twist in what seemed a stretched recovery journey, and it could be the reinforcement the Cubs need.
The Closer
Despite Saturday's heavy defeat, the spirit of the Cubs' fans remains unshaken, showing their strong support as the team faces setbacks. With Justin Steele set to rejoin the rotation soon, he's ready to give the team a boost. Despite injuries to key players like Steele, Cody Bellinger, Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, and now Christopher Morel, the Cubs have maintained a 17-10 record. This ability to stay competitive under such tough conditions is truly impressive!
What are your thoughts on Steele’s rapid return, and what do you think of the Cubs so far in 2024? Let’s chat in the comments below or hit me up on social media! Let's gear up and hope for a rebound in the next game, Cubs fans!
