Busch's Blast, Bellinger's Back: Cubs Comeback
Are these the Cubs team we've been waiting for?
The Leadoff Man
Hey Cubs Nation! Witness the thrill as Michael Busch hits a stunning walk-off homer to clinch a Cubs victory! In this issue, we dive into the game-changing play, Shota Imanaga's commanding performance on the mound, and Cody Bellinger's impactful return. Get ready to explore how these moments are shaping our season.
Busch’s Walk Off Wonder
Michael Busch's 427-foot walk-off home run propelled the Cubs to a thrilling 3-2 win.
Michael Busch delivered big-time with a walk-off solo home run that flew a whopping 427 feet, rounding off our score to a sweet 3-2 victory over the Padres. This game was a thrill ride from start to finish, showcasing just why we love this game. It’s all about timing in baseball, and the Cubs are hopefully building a foundation for an October run. It’s a good sign to see Michael Busch get a clutch hit. He had been struggling since the Cubs 17-0 loss to Boston. From April 27th to May 6th, he was hitting .171 with 13 strikeouts in 35 at bats. Last nights, Walk-Off Home Run will hopefully spark a streak for Busch.

Imanaga's Masterclass on the Mound
Shota Imanaga nearly completed a game on Tuesday night, showcasing his skill before a 2-run homer ended his outing.
Shota Imanaga's near-complete game on Tuesday was a masterclass in pitching control. With the Cubs bullpen's history of blown leads, giving Imanaga the chance to finish his outing was understandable. Sadly, his effort fell short when a critical 2-run homer gave the Padres a late lead.
Reflecting on this turning point, Imanaga offered a thoughtful self-critique: “I think the pitch selection was right, but I could have managed the pitch clock better – a long hold, a change-up to disrupt tempo – that might have helped.” This insight reveals his technical awareness and the analytical approach that's earned him the nickname 'The Throwing Philosopher.'
Notably, this was the Cubs' first start of the year with a pitcher surpassing the 100-pitch mark.
Shota Imanaga is delivering on and off the field for the Cubs.
His one-liner after another stellar outing Tuesday:
"Recently, it’s been hard for me to get up in the morning so if I switch the fans cheering to my alarm, I think I’ll get up pretty fast."

Bellinger’s Back with a Bang
Starting with a resilient 12-pitch at-bat, Cody Bellinger later added a crucial single in the eighth before launching a solo home run that clinched the Cubs' win.
Cody Bellinger's return to the Cubs' lineup was truly a game-changer. Though he kicked off with a marathon 12-pitch at-bat that ended in a flyout, Bellinger used the opportunity to recalibrate. "It’s the type of at-bat you want when you come back," he noted, emphasizing how it helped him "learn your swing and get your body back."
Bellinger then delivered exactly what the Cubs had been missing. His fourth-inning home run to right-center field gave the Cubs an early 1-0 lead. He followed that with singles in the sixth and crucial eighth innings – the latter advancing Mike Tauchman to third, setting up Christopher Morel for a sac fly RBI.
Cody Bellinger, hello.
Baseball, goodbye.

Tomorrow's Cubs vs. Padres Showdown
Game time alert: Watch Hayden Wesneski face off against Dylan Cease tomorrow afternoon at Wrigley.
Dylan Cease starts for the Padres tomorrow, and it's a stark reminder of the talent that once brewed in our farm system. Cease has transformed into a powerhouse since his 2017 trade to the White Sox, continuing his dominance with San Diego. This season, Cease boasts a formidable 1.82 ERA and 35 strikeouts, not to mention a tight 0.93 WHIP. His dominance, especially against right-handed hitters who've managed just one hit off him all season, speaks volumes.
Switching gears to our home turf, tomorrow's game features our rising star, Hayden Wesneski. Sporting a stellar 0.54 ERA, Wesneski’s solid last couple of outings have earned him another start
Seeing Cease thrive with another team makes me dream of a rotation featuring him alongside Justin Steele. What an incredible combo that would be! But let’s focus on the here and now, and the promising talent we have in Wesneski.
So, what are your thoughts on Cease’s journey and his impact away from our roster? Drop your comments below, and remember, whether it stings or not, we’ve got plenty to be excited about with our current squad. Gear up for tomorrow’s game—it’s set to be a scorcher! Go Cubs!
