Discovering a Lifelong Passion: The Cubs Superfans

A Journey Beyond the Diamond: Embracing the Heart and Soul of Cubs Nation

Hello, Cubs Family!

Welcome to the Cubs Superfans, a newsletter born from deep passion for everyone who holds the Cubs dear. This isn't just about scores and game updates; it's a celebration of our collective experiences and moments with the Chicago Cubs, filled with triumphs, challenges, and everything that makes us true fans.

My connection to the Cubs ignited in 1984, at the age of 5, watching games on WGN with boyhood friends. This bond was not just shaped by the excitement of the games but also by a rich family heritage linked to the Cubs' early 1900s dynasty. My grandmother, born in 1910 and lived across the street from historic West Side Grounds, passed down this legacy, embedding the Cubs deep in my heart from a young age.

The sight of Ron Cey hitting home runs in '85 captured my imagination, leading to countless afternoons imitating "The Penguin" in backyard baseball games. Ryne Sandberg quickly became my idol, with his baseball cards placed near the TV as a good luck charm whenever he batted.

Wrigley Field has been the backdrop to many cherished experiences, from my first game in 1984 against the Padres, to the energy of the 2003 NLCS, and the unforgettable 2016 NLCS. I made a conscious decision not to financially support the team in the Sam Zell ownership era, a stand against priorities that seemed to place profit over victory. My enthusiasm was supercharged with the Ricketts family's acquisition of the team.

Sharing my Cubs enthusiasm is a big part of my life, from engaging text threads with friends to singing "Go Cubs Go" with my children after a win. The 2016 World Series win was a moment of unparalleled joy, celebrated with tears, champagne, and a rush that lasted for at least 18 months.

In the offseason, I stay connected to the Cubs' world, closely following team moves and updates from Bleacher Nation, CHGO, or Bleed Cubbie Blue. I’ve been the Cubs expert with my circle for years. I’d like to share that with you.

Looking ahead, I hope to see the Cubs consistently contend for the playoffs and secure another World Series title in our lifetime.

This newsletter is more than just a fan's perspective; it's a tribute to the enduring spirit of the Cubs. The Cubs Superfans celebrates our shared memories, dreams, and the profound connection we share as fans of this legendary team.

Let's embark on this experience together. Here's to flying the W high, now and forever.
