The Leadoff Man

This weekend was a rollercoaster, proving these Cubs are still a team with growing pains. Let's face it, there were some... yikes moments against the Marlins, a team that shouldn't be giving us this much trouble. Look, we split the series with Miami – a team we expected to sweep. Am I thrilled? Absolutely not. But hey, maybe this frustration means my standards are finally higher than the bleachers' pigeons. Maybe I've finally become a new type of real Cubs fan, the kind who expects greatness and isn't satisfied with mediocrity. At least, that's what I'm telling myself as I try to swallow this 2-2 disappointment.

Ugly Sunday Afternoon at Wrigley Field

The Cubs faced a rough defeat, signaling a need for growth amidst a season of high expectations.

Sunday’s game at Wrigley was a painful reminder of the challenging climb ahead for our beloved Cubs. With a 162-game season, there are bound to be days that test our patience—this was certainly one of them. Kyle Hendricks, once a linchpin of the rotation, faltered on the mound, highlighting a concerning trend. His performance, alongside mixed results from the bullpen, underscores the need for consistency from the pitching staff. Meanwhile, at bat, Nico Hoerner and Cody Bellinger showed sparks of brilliance, but the team left too many on base, missing crucial scoring opportunities.

Nico Hoerner is on Fire!

Since April 14, Nico Hoerner has been a beacon of consistency, boasting a .444 BABIP and energizing the lineup.

Through the rollercoaster of the Cubs' season, Nico Hoerner has been a rock for the last week. Racking up 15 hits from 34 at-bats, he’s been smashing a solid .441, injecting some much-needed energy and precision into our lineup. His .444 BABIP tells us he’s not just lucky; the guy’s genuinely skilled, playing a crucial role every time he steps up to the plate. And let’s talk about his eye—despite a sparse walk count, Nico's striking out less and making every at-bat count. His knack for driving in vital runs? Key to our Cubs clawing back into games. .

This Chicago Cubs player was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox 4th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft

He was traded to the Cubs for closer Craig Kimbral in July of 2021

Hide the Trashcans, the Astros are coming to town

A challenging series ahead as the Cubs face the Astros with a fresh lineup of pitchers set to take the mound.

After a day off to regroup, our Cubs are stepping up for what could be one of the most telling series of the season against the Houston Astros. The matchups at the mound are looking more like duels than games, kicking off with JP France squaring off against Jordan Wicks Tuesday night. But let's circle Wednesday on our calendars, folks—that’s when we see the veteran ace Justin Verlander take on our own Jameson Taillon in a clash that’s more anticipated than a deep dish on game day. Both pitchers are making their 2nd start of the season and looked good in their debuts!
